Fake IDs are common among underage college students and are closely associated with alcohol abuse. However, it is unclear how fake IDs are most commonly obtained and used, and we provide a faster and more reliable way. This information can help students obtain products such as alcohol more quickly. A cross-sectional online survey of 1,098 underage students at a large Midwestern university in the United States showed that 21.0% of students reported having a fake ID. Among students who had a fake ID, 93.5% reported using a fake ID. Greek (i.e., fraternity/sorority) members are more likely to obtain alcohol through Greek organizations than other members. In addition, men are more likely to purchase alcohol than women, but less likely to obtain alcohol.
